No Unnecessary Travel Advised for Parts of Northern Cayuga County

SHARE NOW

Local officials are urging drivers to avoid travel in parts of northern Cayuga County as hazardous winter weather continues to impact the region.

A “No Unnecessary Travel” advisory has been issued for the Towns of Ira, Victory, and Sterling due to heavy lake-effect snow and strong winds creating dangerous road conditions.

Authorities say conditions in the area from Ira and Victory north to Sterling have deteriorated rapidly, with some roadways reported to be nearly impassable as of 2:00 p.m. Blowing snow and reduced visibility are making travel extremely difficult.

While the advisory does not ban travel, officials stress that hazardous conditions exist and motorists should use extreme caution. Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas until conditions improve.

Emergency crews continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
