A 17-year-old has been charged after police say he fatally shot his father during an argument in their Rochester apartment.
Rochester Police responded around 11 p.m. Monday to a report of a shooting at 9 Garson Avenue. Officers were directed to a downstairs apartment by Devin McBride Jr., where they found 38-year-old Devin McBride Sr. suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso. McBride Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initially, McBride Jr. told officers that an unknown person had shot his father and fled. Investigators later determined that he had fired a single shot to his father’s chest following an argument. Police recovered a defaced and unregistered 9 mm handgun and a shotgun in the apartment, both belonging to McBride Jr.
The father and son lived together in the apartment. McBride Jr. has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities say additional charges are expected to be presented to a Monroe County Grand Jury.
