Over $6 million has been awarded to the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County to rebuild and expand its aquatic facilities.
Funding for the project was announced by Governor Kathy Hochul as part of the second round of the NY SWIMS grant to expand safe and reliable public swimming facilities in underserved communities and complement the Unplug and Play initiative to encourage families to stay active.
“NY SWIMS has already shown how transformative safe swimming facilities can be for families and neighborhoods,” Governor Hochul said. “This next round of awards continues that progress by giving more communities the resources they need to build and improve the pools and aquatic spaces that support health, safety and year-round recreation. Through Unplug and Play, we’re creating opportunities for New Yorkers to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and come together.”
The state announced that the YMCA has been awarded $6,267,200 to demolish and rebuild its aquatic facilities, renovate an existing pool, upgrade locker rooms, and add a hydrotherapy spa. The upgrades will allow the Y to expand programming for seniors, families, and those with therapeutic needs.
