Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County has been awarded $800,000 to construct a new pool and bathhouse.
Funding for the project comes from the second round of NY Swims grants announced Monday by Governor Kathy Hochul. The funding is designed to expand safe and reliable public swimming facilities in underserved communities is part of the governor’s Unplug and Play initiative that encourages families to stay active and outdoors.
“NY SWIMS has already shown how transformative safe swimming facilities can be for families and neighborhoods,” Governor Hochul said. “This next round of awards continues that progress by giving more communities the resources they need to build and improve the pools and aquatic spaces that support health, safety and year-round recreation. Through Unplug and Play, we’re creating opportunities for New Yorkers to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and come together.”
CCE of Ontario County will use the funding to install a new outdoor pool, a pool house, unisex restrooms, outdoor showers, and a shade pavilion, the governor’s office announced. The pool and other amenities are designed to support summer youth programming and youth recreation.
