A Syracuse man is facing a felony charge after deputies say he was caught driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in Seneca County.
Deputies arrested 43-year-old Berain Winfield early Dec. 22 after stopping his vehicle around 1 a.m. during a road patrol in the Town of Fayette.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy observed Winfield drive through a solid red traffic light at the intersection of state Route 336 and state Route 96 in the Town of Varick. A traffic stop was initiated, and an investigation determined Winfield was operating a vehicle while knowingly having his New York state driving privileges suspended following a failure to answer summonses in multiple jurisdictions.
Winfield was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, a Class E felony. He was transported to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center for processing and later released with an appearance ticket and uniform traffic tickets.
He is scheduled to appear at a later date in Town of Varick Court to answer the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
