Seneca County Eliminates Residency Requirement for Manager

SHARE NOW

A local law waiving the residency requirement for the county manager position was approved by the Seneca County Board of Supervisors this week.

The decision was made after a public hearing during which no comments were received. The move follows a previous waiver earlier this year for current Deputy County Manager Melissa Taylor, who lives in Lyons.

The Finger Lakes Times reports Supervisor Bob Shipley was the lone dissenting vote and said he believes the county manager should live in Seneca County to ensure they have a stake in county taxes, calling that responsibility “their No. 1 duty.”
