New York State Police have arrested a 55-year-old Ontario man following a reported domestic incident at a Ridge Road residence in the town of Williamson.
State Police say Thomas Witt, of Ontario, was taken into custody after an investigation into a domestic dispute that reportedly occurred on December 22 and was reported the following morning.
According to investigators, Witt unlawfully entered the residence and became involved in a physical altercation with an adult female victim. Troopers allege that during the incident, Witt obstructed the victim’s breathing, threatened her with a knife, prevented her from contacting emergency services, and made statements that caused the victim to fear for her life.
Members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation later located Witt at a residence on Route 104 in the town of Ontario, where he was arrested without incident.
Witt was charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree burglary, second-degree strangulation, first-degree criminal contempt, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated family offense, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree harassment.
Witt was processed at State Police in Williamson and transported to the Wayne County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Part proceedings.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
