The Cayuga County Office for the Aging is once again highlighting the urgent need for volunteers for its Meals on Wheels program.
In a Facebook post, the office said it has an urgent need for drivers, specifically in Moravia.
Meals on Wheels sees volunteers deliver meals to homebound rural residents throughout the county. Volunteers also ensure that participants in the program receive social interaction through informal wellness checks, allowing them to remain independent and in their homes.
In Cayuga County, the office said deliveries are based out of Auburn and Moravia, and typically last two hours on weekdays.
Prospective volunteers are provided with orientation, training, and a shadow run with a seasoned delivery driver. Additionally, the office says volunteers can choose their own schedule and work with a partner or drive solo. Those looking to volunteer are asked to contact the office’s volunteer coordinator at 315-253-1104 or [email protected].
