One of the men looking to succeed Brian Schenck as Cayuga County Sheriff has received another endorsement.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Police Association has announced its endorsement of Lieutenant Rob Franklin following a membership vote. The association represents members of the sheriff’s office’s road patrol division.

In its decision, the association said, “Lieutenant Franklin understands the realities faced by working Deputies and the importance of strong, consistent leadership. He has earned the confidence of our members and their unanimous support.”

Franklin said, “I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to work alongside the members of the Sheriff’s Office for the last 18 years. I look forward to continuing to work alongside them as we build upon the solid foundation of dedicated and professional service that his county so richly deserves. It is my distinct honor to accept this endorsement for Sheriff of Cayuga County from the professional men and women of the Cayuga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Association.”

Earlier this month, Franklin received the endorsement of former Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould.

Franklin is one of two men vying for the Republican and Conservative Parties’ nominations for the office of sheriff. Franklin, a detective lieutenant with the sheriff’s office, is challenged by Chris Major, a 21-year veteran of the Auburn Police Department.

In November, Sheriff Schenck announced he would not stand for reelection in 2026.

The association’s full endorsement announcement can be viewed below.
