An effort to help one Auburn soup kitchen this holiday season has been a success.
APE Scare & Care has announced that its Holiday Cheer Food Drive, held December 13 and 14 at the Auburn Walmart parking lot, raised 10 boxes of non-perishable food and two flats of water to be donated to the Auburn Community Soup Kitchen at the Episcopal Church of Saints Peter & John. Additionally, $1,500 in direct donations were made for the purchase of in-demand supplies.
Speaking with FLX Local Media, Melissa Panek of APE said the event was a great for to help those in need while staying connected to the community.
“This Holiday Cheer Drive proved that you don’t need a building to make a massive impact. While we missed hosting our traditional indoor holiday experience, bringing Mrs Claus and Krampus out to meet the community at Walmart allowed us to stay connected while addressing a community need. To see the community step up and help us raise $1,500 and ten large boxes of food for Auburn Community Soup Kitchen was the best Christmas gift we could have asked for. We want to thank Auburn U-Haul for partnering with us to bring some holiday cheer to those who need it most.”
Additionally, APE said the event shows that it remains committed to serving the community while it searches for a new permanent location after leaving the Fingerlakes Mall.
