Local law enforcement officials recognized three individuals this week for their lifesaving actions during a house fire in the City of Auburn earlier this fall.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the Auburn Police Department honored Deputy Brian Kelly, Officer Paul Flickner, and civilian Matthew Duby on Monday for their response to a residential fire that happened Nov. 5. Authorities say the three helped rescue a resident and pets who were inside the home at the time of the fire.

Deputy Kelly was awarded a Medal of Valor, while Officer Flickner received an Act of Valor award. Duby, the neighbor of the residence that caught fire, was presented with a Civilian Commendation for his actions.

Officials praised the trio for their efforts during what was described as a life-threatening situation.
