Two men were arrested on Saturday following a burglary at a building on County Road 132 in the town of Ovid.
Seneca County 911 got a call around 8:58 a.m. about a suspicious man walking around the property. Troopers, along with Seneca County deputies and other agencies, responded and found signs of forced entry, including broken windows and damaged doors.
A search of the building led officers to 58-year-old Allen Little, of Freeville, and 39-year-old Billyray Ward, of Groton, hiding in the basement. Both were taken into custody without incident.
Officials say copper wiring and other parts of the building had been removed or damaged, and several stolen items and tools were recovered. Controlled substances were also found during the arrests.
Both men face multiple charges, including burglary, criminal mischief, petit larceny, and possession of burglar’s tools. Little also faces two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
They were taken to the Seneca County Jail for arraignment, and the investigation is ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
