A Finger Lakes company whose snowmaking technology has helped shape winter sports around the world is being recognized by New York state for its decades of innovation and economic impact.
State Senator Pam Helming, who nominated the company for the honor, said Ratnik Industries exemplifies New York ingenuity and long-term commitment to quality and innovation.
Founded in 1965, Ratnik Industries has supplied snowmaking systems to ski resorts across New York, the United States and internationally. The company’s technology has been used at nearly every Winter Olympics since 1980 and is currently in use at more than 600 ski resorts worldwide.
The business traces its origins to President and CEO Ron Ratnik’s purchase of land that would later become Bristol Mountain, a major winter recreation destination in the region. What began as a local investment evolved into a global enterprise serving the ski industry.
“For more than 60 years, this family-led company has strengthened our regional economy and helped elevate the Finger Lakes on the world stage,” Helming said.
The New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry, launched in 2022, recognizes long-standing businesses that have made lasting contributions to their communities’ economic vitality and quality of life. More than 230 businesses across the state have been inducted since the program began.
Monika Ratnik, who oversees business development for the company, said the recognition reflects the company’s focus on integrity, honesty and quality in its products.
