Two Ovid Residents Arrested on Larceny and Conspiracy Charges

SHARE NOW

Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson reports that deputies arrested two Ovid residents Saturday afternoon in connection with a theft investigation at a local business.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrested 58-year-old Julia Collins and 54-year-old William Campbell at approximately 3:15 p.m. in the Town of Ovid. Both were charged with fifth-degree conspiracy and petit larceny, Class A misdemeanors, as well as fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony.

The arrest stems from a complaint in which a victim reported her wallet was stolen from a shopping basket inside the Ovid Dollar General. Deputies responded to the store, spoke with the victim and employees, and conducted an investigation that led to the identification of Collins and Campbell as suspects shortly after arrival. Deputies report that the stolen property has been recovered, and both suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Collins and Campbell were transported to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center in Romulus, where they were processed and released on appearance tickets. They are scheduled to appear in Ovid Town Court on January 6.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
