A 79-year-old Penn Yan woman was seriously injured Tuesday morning after being struck by a Pro Action bus in the village.

Police say the accident happened around 11:20 a.m. at the intersection of Liberty Street and Elm Street. Bystanders were already helping Judy Thompson when officers arrived. Penn Yan Fire and the Penn Yan Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded, and Thompson was treated on scene before being airlifted by LifeNet for further hospital care.

The bus driver, 79-year-old Robert Gilbert of Penn Yan, was turning north onto Liberty Street from Elm Street when he struck Thompson, who was crossing westbound.

Police continue to investigate the accident, and charges may still be pending.
