VA Man Charged with DWI After Cayuga County Crash Detected By iPhone Alert

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says a Virginia man was arrested early Saturday morning after deputies responded to an iPhone crash detection alert in the Town of Fleming.

Deputies were called to the area of West Lake Road and Buck Point Road around 3:04 a.m., where they found a heavily damaged vehicle that had struck a culvert. The driver, 22-year-old Isaias Presas-Reyes of North Chesterfield, Virginia, was being evaluated by EMS but refused transport to the hospital.

According to the sheriff’s office, Presas-Reyes showed signs of intoxication and later failed field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody and brought to the Public Safety Building, where a chemical breath test registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.17 percent.

Presas-Reyes was charged with DWI first offense, DWI with a BAC of 0.08 percent or higher, moving from a lane unsafely, and operating a vehicle without a license.

He was released on traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Fleming Town Court on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
