Auburn Police charged a local man Friday after a weapon complaint led officers to discover a ghost gun at his home.
Police say officers responded to a Boston Avenue address where 44-year-old Joseph Tamilio allegedly showed the complainant a camouflage handgun. Officers then made contact with Tamilio at his residence and located a 9mm handgun in his bedroom along with live ammunition. The firearm was determined to be an unserialized “ghost gun.”
Tamilio told officers he had previously been denied a New York State pistol permit because of a felony arrest in the early 2000s, though a criminal history check showed no prior convictions.
He was charged with felony criminal possession of a firearm and released on an appearance ticket.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
