Off-Duty State Trooper Arrested for DWI

SHARE NOW

A hit-and-run in Cortlandt on December 4 ended with an arrest, according to New York State Police.

Troopers say a 2017 Chevrolet sedan hit the back of a car stopped at a red light on East Main Street around 8:07 p.m. The driver didn’t stop and continued south toward Crompond Road before parking in the Hudson Valley Hospital lot.

Police identified the driver as Richard Miller, 51, of Putnam Valley, who works with Troop NYC. Officers say Miller showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated. He was processed at State Police Cortlandt and released to a third party.

Miller is scheduled to appear in Town of Cortlandt Court on January 5, 2026, at 9 a.m.

No one was hurt in the crash, and the investigation is still ongoing.
