Ithaca City Manager Deb Mohlenhoff will conclude her service on December 31, 2025, following a leadership transition initiated by the City’s Common Council. Mohlenhoff, the city’s first manager, submitted her resignation at the Council’s request. Officials emphasized that no wrongdoing is alleged and that the Council is electing to pursue new leadership before the new year.

Mayor Robert Cantelmo praised Mohlenhoff’s years of public service, noting her prior roles on the Common Council (2009–2021) and as chief of staff under former Mayor Laura Lewis, in addition to her tenure as city manager.

“I thank Ms. Mohlenhoff for her years of service and her contributions to the professionalization of city administration,” Cantelmo said.

Mohlenhoff said it has been an honor to serve as Ithaca’s first city manager and work with the city staff.
“While this departure was not at my initiative, I respect the Council’s authority to select a city manager whose approach more closely aligns with their goals,” Molenhoff said. She highlighted accomplishments during her tenure, including implementing the city’s new government structure, updating policies and procedures, improving transparency, and fostering collaboration across departments.

Mayor Cantelmo stressed the city’s continued support for employees and residents during the transition. To ensure continuity, Deputy City Manager Dominick Recckio will serve as Acting City Manager beginning January 1, 2026.
