Geneva Assistant Principal Resigns After Arrest

SHARE NOW

A Geneva High School assistant principal has been arrested following an incident involving a student last month, according to the Geneva Police Department.

Police say James Nunez was taken into custody around 4 p.m. Tuesday and is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Second-Degree Harassment. Investigators say the charges stem from a November 18 incident at the high school in which Nunez is accused of making inappropriate and unwanted physical contact with a student.

Nunez was processed at the Geneva Police Department and taken to the Ontario County Jail pending arraignment. Police say they believe this was an isolated incident and no other students are involved. The investigation is ongoing in partnership with the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office and the Geneva City School District.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Geneva Police Department at 315-828-6771 or Detective Jordan Dobies at 315-828-6780. Tips may remain anonymous.

District Confirms Resignation

In a statement on Wednesday, the Geneva City School District said police informed them that Nunez had been charged. The district says Nunez had already been placed on administrative leave when concerns were first raised and has since submitted his resignation for personal reasons. He is no longer employed by the district.  Nunez came to the district in September of 2023.

“We take these types of allegations very seriously,” Superintendent Bo Wright said. “We have cooperated fully with law enforcement throughout this process and appreciate their partnership.”

Wright added that student and staff safety remains the district’s top priority and that high school operations continue normally under existing leadership.

The district says it cannot comment further, citing personnel restrictions.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
