The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Troupsburg woman has been arrested following an investigation into alleged welfare fraud spanning more than a year.
According to Sheriff Jim Allard, 32-year-old Nicole Trumbul, was taken into custody on Monday. Investigators allege that between December 12, 2022, and May 31, 2024, Trumbul submitted a false instrument for filing to the Steuben County Department of Social Services and illegally received $17,364 in benefits she was not entitled to.
Trumbul is charged with:
- Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree (Class E felony)
- Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree (Class E felony)
- Welfare Fraud in the Third Degree (Class D felony)
- Grand Larceny in the Third Degree (Class D felony)
She was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and released.
Sheriff Allard thanked the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
