A former Rochester-area teacher has been sentenced to federal prison after authorities discovered hundreds of illegal images in his possession.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Tuesday that 45-year-old Kevin Burns of Rochester was sentenced to 54 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca. Burns had previously been convicted of possessing child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford, the investigation began on November 5, 2024, when New York State Police executed a search warrant at Burns’ Irondequoit residence after he uploaded a child pornography file to Bing Image. Officers seized multiple electronic devices during the search, including a computer.
Investigators later discovered more than 450 images of child pornography stored on the devices. Some of the material depicted acts of violence against children and the exploitation of an infant or toddler.
Burns will serve his sentence in federal custody.
