Steuben County DMV Offices Closed Tuesday for Staff Training

Steuben County Clerk Judy Hunter has announced that the Bath, Corning, and Hornell DMV offices will be closed on December 2 to allow staff to participate in required training for the DMV’s new technology system.

The training marks the first phase of the NYSDMV computer modernization project, a statewide upgrade scheduled to launch in February 2026. The project will replace outdated computer systems and software—some dating back to the 1980s—with a modern, streamlined platform intended to make transactions faster and easier for customers.

“This upgrade is all about better service, efficiency, and security,” Hunter said. “The new system should make DMV visits smoother for residents across Steuben County.”

The modernization will roll out in phases over the next few years. Officials say there may be occasional short-term closures or additional training sessions, but advance notice will be provided.

DMV offices will reopen with normal hours on Wednesday, December 3. Residents can find updates on the Steuben County website or by contacting the County Clerk’s Office.
