The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance says more than 8.2 million inflation refund checks have now been sent to eligible residents as part of the state’s first-ever Inflation Refund Check program.
The initiative, created in the FY 2026 State Budget, provides $2.2 billion in direct financial assistance to qualifying New Yorkers. Checks of up to $400 have been mailed over the past two months.
Although the main mailing phase has concluded, additional checks will continue to go out in the coming weeks as the Tax Department identifies more eligible recipients.
Residents can review eligibility requirements and track their refund status through the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance website.
