Midlakes sophomore Alivia DeJohn has been honored with a Student Leadership Award at the 2025 New York State Council on Leadership and Student Activities (NYS CLSA) conference, held this month in Niagara Falls.
DeJohn attended the conference as part of a delegation of Midlakes students who spent the weekend participating in leadership and community-service workshops, sharing ideas with peers from across New York State. Students also took part in roundtable sessions hosted by other schools, highlighting successful programs and innovative projects.
The conference opened with a keynote on “Work2BeWell,” a teen-led mental health and wellness initiative that provides free mental health resources for teens, educators and communities. The program aims to create inclusive spaces and amplify the voices of groups often underrepresented in mental-health conversations.

DeJohn has been an active leader throughout her time at Midlakes, participating in several leadership programs at both the elementary and secondary levels. She is also a multi-sport athlete, competing on the varsity volleyball team—which reached the Section V finals this fall—along with winter cheer and varsity lacrosse. She has previously been inducted into both the National Elementary and National Junior Honor Societies.
School officials say her recognition at the statewide conference underscores her ongoing dedication to leadership, service and school involvement.
