A Pahrump, Nevada man was arrested by Penn Yan police following a traffic stop in the village. Authorities say 57-year-old Keith Newell was driving on Main Street without his lights on, swerved into oncoming traffic, and nearly struck a police vehicle.
Officers say Newell showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody and transported to the Yates County Jail, where he refused to submit to a chemical test.
Newell was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a vehicle without proper lights, failure to keep right, and unsafe lane changes. He was processed by police and remained in custody awaiting centralized arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
