Cayuga County residents will soon have a chance to voice their opinion on a proposed animal abuse registry for the county.
The county legislature will hold a public hearing on its proposed law to establish an animal abuse registry during its regularly scheduled meeting on November 25 at 6:00p at the Ward O’Hara Ag Museum.
If approved, those convicted of animal abuse would be required to register with local law enforcement for the registry. Abusers would also be prohibited from obtaining animals from a shelter or seller.
The legislature could vote on the law after the hearing.
The Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY, which helped develop the proposed law, is urging residents to attend and voice their support for it. Those who can’t attend are asked to contact their legislators and urge them to vote yes.
