Ithaca Police say a man is in custody after officers responded to a burglary in progress at a business in the 100 block of East State Street.
When officers arrived, they found the front door had been forcibly damaged. Police say they located a man inside the store attempting to steal merchandise.
The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Michael Jones Jr. of Ithaca, was detained at the scene. Jones is charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor.
At last word, Jones was awaiting arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
