A new candidate has entered the 2026 race for New York’s congressional seat currently held by Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney.
Kenneth Estes Jr. of Caledonia has launched an independent campaign, positioning himself as an alternative to both major parties. Estes, who describes himself as a “proud seventh-generation farmer and steward of the land,” says his campaign will focus on reducing political polarization.
He joins Democrats Alissa Ellman and Diana Kastenbaum in the race. Another Democratic contender, Steven Holden, who previously challenged Tenney in 2022, has withdrawn and endorsed Kastenbaum.
Estes holds degrees in natural resources, environmental conservation, landscape architecture, and community and economic development. He says his priorities include sustainable growth, investment in local economies, and protecting the region’s natural landscapes.
