The Geneva community came together this month at Ventosa Vineyards for the Second Impact Foundation’s “Shields of Honor” Gala, raising $42,000 to support the Geneva Police and Fire Departments.
According to organizers, attendees of the November 1st event enjoyed an evening of generosity and heartfelt recognition for Geneva’s first responders, honoring the courage and commitment they show every day.
This year’s gala paid special tribute to two outstanding leaders: the late Fire Chief Carlton Naegele and Police Chief Frank Pane Jr.. Retired firefighter Bernard “Bernie” Naegele accepted the inaugural Naegele Award on behalf of his father, while Chief Pane received his award in person.
Distinguished speakers included Dr. Daniel Alexander, an orthopedic surgeon and founder of Finger Lakes Bone and Joint Center, and Ontario County Judge Kristina “Kitty” Karle, who reflected on public service and community dedication.
“The fire and police departments are the backbone of our community,” said Ray Ciancaglini, founder of The Second Impact Foundation. “Their bravery and dedication often go unrecognized. This gala is our way of saying thank you — of standing together to honor those who answer the call when we need them most.”
The live auction featured 13 unique items, including a Winchester 1894 NRA 100-year commemorative 30-30 rifle, a football helmet signed by Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, and a Henry 9mm semi-automatic rifle.
Now in its fourth year, the Shields of Honor Gala has raised a total of $144,000 to support Geneva’s first responders. The funds from this year’s event will help provide essential resources and tools for the Police and Fire Departments to continue protecting the community.
Ciancaglini, a former professional boxer who has battled Parkinson’s Syndrome and CTE from untreated concussions, founded The Second Impact Foundation to raise awareness about concussion safety, mental health, and resilience. Through events like the Gala, his organization continues to inspire compassion, education, and community action.
