United Way of Cayuga County has exceeded its goal of collecting 3,000 hygiene items as part of its 8th Annual Personal Care Drive.
United Way announced on Tuesday that 3,229 personal hygiene items, such as shampoo, tampons, razors, toothbrushes, and laundry detergent, were collected during the drive for distribution to food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters within Cayuga County.
Last month, United Way extended the drive, having it run through October 31. The 2,400 items collected before the announcement were distributed to 19 organizations by CAP Cayuga/Seneca.
The items collected during the extension were donated to the Auburn Rescue Mission, Harriet Tubman Liberation Foundation’s Safe & Warm program, the Episcopal Church of Saints Peter and John’s soup kitchen, and the Salvation Army’s food pantry.
This was the first year that the Safe & Warm program received support from the drive. “We really are grateful for this and hope that we can count on it every year,” said Program Coordinator Ashely Teuke.
United Way is already planning its 9th Annual Countywide Personal Care Drive, which is expected to launch on August 6, 2026. Those interested in assisting with the drive are asked to contact Campaign & Marketing Manager, Julisa J Stone-Szpaicher at [email protected].
