UPDATE: Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Wayne County Identified

Following an investigation into the incident, the victim has been identified as 47-year-old Nathan Derr of Lyons.

Police say Derr was traveling southbound on foot when he collided with the westbound high-speed train. No other updates were provided at this time.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train in the Town of Lyons.

The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. Monday on the south track, just east of the State Route 14 overpass near Franklin Street. Amtrak officials reported that the train was traveling at approximately 79 miles per hour when it struck the individual, who was walking in an area not designated for pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the individual’s identity pending notification of family members.

There were 141 passengers on board the train at the time, and no injuries have been reported.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
