A Cato man is behind bars after allegedly attacking a woman with a butane torch.
Authorities say Daniel Root allegedly attacked a woman with a handheld butane torch tank, causing injuries to her face and head. During the attack, Root reportedly destroyed the victim’s cell phone as she tried to call 911.
The woman was able to escape and ran to a neighbor’s house for help before being taken to a hospital for treatment. Deputies later arrested Root at his home.
Root is facing charges including second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief. He’s being held on $10,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Cato Town Court on Wednesday.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
