A Rochester woman was taken into custody following a shoplifting incident at Target in the Town of Victor.
Authorities say Elaine Banitskas allegedly switched price tags on items, placing lower-priced tags on items she intended to purchase. She then scanned the items at checkout using the lower-priced tags, resulting in a reported loss of $86.06 to the store.
Banitskas was charged with Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree and Petit Larceny. She is due back in Town of Victor Court at a later date to answer to the charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
