An 18-year-old from Plainview, New York, is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing a marked New York State Police patrol vehicle early Wednesday morning.
According to State Police, troopers from SP Oneonta were notified around 5 a.m. on November 5 of a burglary at Accurate Auto and Truck Repair in the town of Davenport, where the patrol vehicle had been undergoing maintenance. Investigators say the vehicle was taken from the property overnight. No weapons were inside the car at the time. About an hour later, around 6 a.m., troopers in Rensselaer County located the stolen vehicle on Interstate 90 in the town of Schodack. The 18-year-old suspect was found inside and taken into custody without incident.
He was arraigned in Schodack Town Court and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, a Class D felony. He was then turned over to investigators from Troop C, who charged him with Burglary in the Third Degree and Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, both Class D felonies.
State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
