UPDATE:
State Police say a preliminary investigation into Monday’s shooting at SUNY Morrisville indicates the incident stemmed from an isolated dispute between people who knew each other.
The investigation remains active, and State Police continue to work closely with local and campus law enforcement agencies. Officials say there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the campus community.
As a precaution, SUNY Morrisville and State Police have implemented additional security measures, and an increased police presence will remain on campus to help ensure the safety of students, staff, and residents.
The 20-year-old victim remains hospitalized, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
A 20-year-old man who was identified as a non-student was shot in the neck inside a building on the campus of SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday afternoon. Troopers arrived at the scene around 3:45 p.m., according to CNY Central.
The college announced a lockdown and shelter-in-place order, which was lifted at around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Due to its proximity to the campus, Morrisville Elementary School also went into lockdown and delayed releasing students until the area was secure.
New York State Police are leading the investigation into the shooting that took place in the South Hall of the campus. The suspected shooter has not yet been taken into custody.
Governor Kathy Hochul posted on X that she is monitoring the situation.
“I have been briefed on the shooting on campus at SUNY Morrisville,” said Governor Hochul. “New York State Police are assisting local law enforcement and SUNY leadership as they respond to this situation. The campus remains on lockdown until further notice.”
This is a developing story. We will continue to update as more information is made available.
