Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a New York State Department of Transportation vehicle and a pickup truck on Monday morning on Interstate 88 in Afton.
State Police say it happened around 10:43 a.m., when a Dodge 3500 pickup pulling a trailer carrying picnic tables crashed into the back of a DOT attenuator truck in the eastbound lanes.
A crew of seven DOT workers had been out repairing potholes. One truck was stationed a half-mile ahead, warning drivers that the right lane was closed, while the second truck was with the workers doing the repairs when it was hit.
Both the DOT worker operating the truck and the 20-year-old driver of the pickup were taken to Wilson Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Both eastbound lanes of I-88 were closed for a time while crews cleared the scene.
Police are reminding drivers to stay alert, slow down, and move over for road crews and emergency vehicles.
