Former Geneva American Legion Commander Admits to Thefts

Just days after being extradited to the Finger Lakes from Pennsylvania, a former Geneva American Legion commander has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $93,000 from the post.

65-year-old Dale Mosher admitted to taking $92,698 from Winnek Post 396 while he was serving as commander. He pleaded guilty to second-degree grand larceny on Monday.

Mosher had previously skipped a court date on September 18, prompting a bench warrant. Authorities said he took his sister’s Jeep while visiting her in Tennessee and fled. He was later arrested on October 13 at a Walmart in Hemlock Township, Pennsylvania, and brought back to New York.

In addition to grand larceny, Mosher faced charges for aggravated harassment and intimidating a victim or witness, for sending threatening letters to witnesses, including one that was considered to be a death threat. His plea deal resolves all three charges, and the victims have been granted no-contact orders of protection. The Ontario County District Attorney’s Office confirmed he will not face federal charges.

Mosher is set to be sentenced on January 22. He could spend three to nine years in prison and has been ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution. He will remain in custody without bail until his sentencing.
