A Wolcott man who serves as a village justice has been arrested following an investigation into the theft of thousands of dollars in lottery tickets from a local lodge.
According to New York State Police, 67-year-old David Miller was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a Class D felony, after allegedly generating nearly $9,500 worth of New York State Quick Draw tickets without paying for them.
Investigators say the incident happened on September 27 while Miller was working at the Wolcott Elks Lodge. Over several hours, he reportedly printed the tickets using the bar’s electronic terminal, producing about $4,164 in winnings but leaving a $5,334 unpaid balance.
Miller was arrested on October 31 and transported to the Wayne County Jail for arraignment, where he was later released pending further court proceedings.
The Wayne County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
