New Walkway to be Installed at Fair Haven Beach

Visitors to Fair Haven Beach State Park will soon have an easier and safer way to reach the water, thanks to a new accessibility project supported by New York’s Enhanced Visitor Experience (EVE) program.

An accessible walkway is being installed at the park as part of a $287,200 statewide initiative to improve campgrounds and day-use areas. The project is one of 15 upgrades being funded this year through the EVE program, which allows park visitors to contribute to enhancements by rounding up their reservation costs on the ReserveAmerica website.

Since the program launched in 2022, more than 23,000 donations have been made, helping fund small but meaningful improvements such as accessibility upgrades, beautification projects, and new recreational amenities.

“The Enhanced Visitor Experience program invites New Yorkers to take an active role in shaping their favorite State Parks,” said Acting Parks Commissioner Kathy Moser. “It helps us connect with visitors and listen to their ideas for improving the overall park experience.”

The Natural Heritage Trust, which helps administer the donation program, praised the generosity of visitors who support these projects. Executive Director Sally Drake said the initiative reflects how deeply New Yorkers value their parks and the experiences they provide.

Other projects supported by the program this year include accessibility improvements at Allegany State Park and family movie nights at Heckscher State Park.
