Keuka Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Battle to Russell Sage

The Keuka College women’s volleyball team pushed Russell Sage College to the limit on Saturday but came up short in a 3–2 loss at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Sophomore Nina Scott (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) led the Wolves with a career-high 23 kills, also setting a new personal best for kills in a season. Keuka dropped to 2–21 overall and 1–8 in Empire 8 play.

Match Recap:
Keuka started strong, taking the first two sets 25–21 and 25–22, with Alessandra Castañeda (San Antonio, Texas / John Marshall) sealing the first with a kill and adding 14 kills overall. However, Russell Sage responded by winning the next two sets 25–20 and 25–10 to force a decisive fifth.

The Wolves jumped out to a 7–2 lead in the final frame, but the Gators rallied with a 7–0 run to go ahead. Keuka battled back to tie the set at 13–13, but Russell Sage closed with back-to-back kills to secure the 15–13 win.

Game Notes:

  • Saturday marked the first five-set match between Keuka and Russell Sage in their 12-match history.
  • It was also the first Empire 8 loss for Keuka against the Gators.
  • Gabby Rodriguez (Floresville, Texas / Floresville) led the Wolves defensively with 19 digs, surpassing 700 career digs.
  • Summer Elza (Goodyear, Ariz. / The Odyssey Institute) tallied 25 assists, while Phoebe Swartz (Candor, N.Y. / Candor) added 20.
