A retired New York State Trooper has been arrested following a long-term investigation into the misuse of union funds.
According to State Police, 56-year-old Thomas Mungeer, former President of the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association (NYSTPBA), was arrested on Friday and charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D felony.
Investigators say that between March 2018 and October 2022, while serving as NYSTPBA president, Mungeer allegedly misappropriated union funds for personal use and expenses, depriving the organization of those funds.
Mungeer was taken into custody at Troop G Headquarters in Latham and later arraigned in Albany City Court before Judge Thomas Marcelle. He was released pending his next court appearance in Albany County Superior Court on December 1 at 9:30 a.m.
The Albany County District Attorney’s Office assisted State Police in the investigation.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
