An Ithaca man was arrested early Thursday morning after police found stolen packages while investigating a reported burglary on Dryden Road.
According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Dryden Road. When officers arrived, they saw a man leaving the area and stopped him near East Seneca and North Quarry streets.
The man, identified as 24-year-old Gregory VanDyke, was determined not to be involved in the reported burglary. However, while speaking with him, officers noticed Amazon packages in a bag attached to an electric bicycle.
A search of the bag revealed several packages that did not belong to VanDyke. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Police also believe the electric bicycle he was riding may have been stolen.
The Ithaca Police Department is asking residents to report any missing or stolen packages.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
