Port Byron Man Charged After Rollover Crash in Village of Waterloo

SHARE NOW

A Port Byron man was arrested after a rollover crash in downtown Waterloo late Sunday night.

At around 10:30,  Waterloo police responded to a crash at West Main and Virginia streets, where a vehicle had rolled over.  According to police, 26-year-old Cody Helmer was driving west on West Main Street when he swerved out of his lane and hit a parked car on the north side of the street. That car then hit two other parked vehicles. Helmer’s truck rolled over and slid down the road.

Police say Helmer was driving under the influence and charged him with DWI, aggravated DWI (BAC 0.18% or higher), reckless driving, unsafe lane change, and speeding violations.

Helmer was taken into custody, issued appearance tickets, and will face court in Waterloo Town at a later date.

The crash scene was handled with help from the New York State Police, Waterloo Fire Department, and North Seneca Ambulance.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
