Penn Yan Police have arrested 30-year-old Nathaniel Hillyard of Penn Yan following the results of a lab test that confirmed the presence of methamphetamine.
Police said the charge stems from an incident on July 1 when Hillyard was taken into custody on an arrest warrant out of the City of Elmira. During a search at the time of his arrest, officers reportedly found a glass pipe containing an unknown residue in Hillyard’s pocket. The substance was sent for laboratory analysis, which later tested positive for methamphetamine.
After receiving the results, police contacted Hillyard and took him into custody on October 9. He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
Hillyard was processed at the Penn Yan Police Department and released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
