New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) has unveiled an improved and modernized version of the New York Housing Search website, designed to make finding and applying for affordable housing easier for residents across the state.
The revamped site now includes expanded functionality, including the ability to apply directly to open affordable housing lotteries online. It consolidates listings for housing lotteries and waitlists for all HCR-financed projects into one accessible platform.
HCR Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said the new website reflects Governor Kathy Hochul’s ongoing commitment to improving access to affordable housing. “New York Housing Search is our latest tool to improve access to State-financed housing in communities across the state,” Visnauskas said.
The website allows users to search for available affordable apartments statewide, including units designed for families, seniors, veterans, and individuals in need of support services. Listings also include apartments accessible to people with mobility, hearing, or visual impairments. A built-in translation feature lets users view listings and applications in the state’s twelve most commonly spoken languages.
Property owners with HCR-financed developments can also use the site to create listings, accept electronic applications, run lotteries, and manage waitlists to fill vacancies. Each listing provides detailed eligibility information, including income limits, household size, and any special requirements such as veteran or workforce status.
The initiative supports Governor Hochul’s broader housing agenda, which includes billions in new funding to expand affordable housing, protect tenants, and increase housing supply statewide. According to the Governor’s Office, more than 65,000 affordable homes have been created or preserved so far under her five-year, $25 billion housing plan.
The New York Housing Search website is now live and available to the public, offering a streamlined, digital approach to finding affordable housing across the state.
