Recreational Advisory Lifted for Flint Creek

SHARE NOW

State officials say Flint Creek is safe again for recreational use, more than a month after a fire at the Eco Operations facility in Gorham prompted environmental concerns.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Department of Health announced Wednesday that water quality testing shows significant improvement along the creek, with a low health risk for activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, and fish consumption.

The precautionary advisory was first issued after runoff from the August 30 fire raised concerns about possible contamination. Officials say there are no signs of impacts to public drinking water supplies.

DEC continues to coordinate with local, state, and federal partners on the ongoing fire investigation and referred the disposal of hazardous materials to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
