A Wayne County couple has been arrested following a months-long investigation into alleged child abuse.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Brandy Michels and 30-year-old Dustin Wiemer, both of North Centenary Road in Sodus, were taken into custody on Tuesday.
Deputies say the charges stem from a June 27 incident in which a minor child in their care suffered multiple bruises to the head and a burn mark on her ankle that was in the process of healing.
Michels and Wiemer were each charged with second-degree assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. They were transported to the Wayne County Jail to await arraignment in CAP Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
