An Auburn traffic stop led to two arrests Friday night after investigators say drugs and a loaded revolver were found inside a vehicle.
According to the Auburn Police Department, members of the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force and the department’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) team conducted a vehicle stop around 9:30 p.m.
The driver, 61-year-old David Heffernan of Fleming, was immediately taken into custody on an unrelated matter. Police said he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
A passenger in the vehicle, 51-year-old Beverly Wheeling of Auburn, was allegedly carrying a loaded revolver and a quantity of crack cocaine.
Heffernan was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance. Wheeling was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon and misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Both were arraigned and remanded to Cayuga County Jail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
