An Auburn man is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting two people, including a man who was attacked while asleep at his home.
According to the Auburn Police Department, officers were called on October 4 after a male victim sought treatment at Auburn Community Hospital. He told staff he had been assaulted at his Janet Street home by a man who forced his way inside while he was sleeping.
During the investigation, police also learned that a female victim had been assaulted by the same suspect, whom she already had an order of protection against.
Police identified the suspect as 42-year-old Christopher Sweeting. He was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal contempt (a felony), third-degree assault (a misdemeanor), and second-degree harassment (a violation).
Sweeting was arraigned and remanded to the custody of the Cayuga County Jail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
